Cap Salou: the most natural area in town
Cap Salou is a place of great cultural, historical and geological interest and, in fact, it is the only area declared of geological interest between Delta de l’Ebre and Costa Brava. Join us to find out more!
Located in the easternmost end of our town ─just before Vila-seca La Pineda─, Cap Salou is part of the sustainable project of the Coastal Path and is home of 4 of the most natural coves in Salou (Penya Tallada, Cala Font, Cala Vinya and Cala Crancs), which you can discover thanks to this 6.5km route that starts at the area of Pilons.
The area of Cap Salou is surrounded by many natural treasures that have adapted to the peculiar Mediterranean climate conditions: millenary rocks; cliff and sea birds; plants such as the Limonium Gibertii, the Phoenicean juniper or the uniform sandy depths where fields of Neptune grass grow, which work as food and refuge for part of the fauna and flora that cohabit in Cap Salou.
Precisely, these underwater Neptune grass fields ─which go all along the coast of Tarragona─ create habitats of great value that play a key role in protecting the coastline from erosion and are considered as reliable biomarkers for water near the coast.
And if you’d like to enjoy some incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea, you can’t miss the route of viewpoints that, particularly in Cap Salou and going from West to East, you can find Punta del Cavall, Cala Morisca and the very same Lighthouse, a true treasure for photography enthusiasts. And also for lovers, don’t forget to take fantastic photos of the most amazing sunsets and upload them using #CapSalou and #LoveSalou!
Did you know one of the most iconic spots in the area is the Salou Lighthouse? It is an impressive building from 1858, surrounded by local plants such as the asparagus plant, the white pine tree or the sea lily, and which still words as a lighthouse today.
Besides this, and for those that are keen on a healthy lifestyle, Cap Salou is the ideal place where you can enjoy sports 365 days a year for that extra piece of mind. And even trekking lovers usually spend some days in Salou to rediscover this natural jewel.
Do you love nature, a healthy lifestyle and the Mediterranean? Cap Salou is your place!
